A lush perennial border garden surrounded by fieldstone walls and hemlock hedges. The garden, which is located on the grounds of the Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, was designed in 1912 by Beatrix Farrand, a landscape gardener whose work defined American taste in gardens during the first half of the twentieth century.
Beatrix Farrand Garden at Bellefield, one of America’s most celebrated landscape architects, created the walled garden at Bellefield (1872-1959). Bellefield is a gem of American garden design and one of Farrand’s few surviving private commissions. She is best known for the private estate gardens she designed for East Coast society and some of the most prestigious private universities and colleges.
